Alright all you people out there who are reading my bloggy blog… I NEED YOUR HELP!!! Clay and I have been married for one year as of June 23rd… (WOOHOOOO YIPEEE!!! Best year ever. really. seriously.) So we are trying to plan a small get-away. Probably a Thursday to a Monday… so pretty short.

We have been racking our brains all night and searching online… I’m pretty much pooped and have run out of ideas. So I am putting it up for your input.

Here are the stipulations:

We want to be able to take the dogs because we love them… (mainly because we know how much Reggie hates doggy day care.)

We want to be able to drive (again, the dog thing.) We live in San Diego. So maybe… 10 hours or less from there.

Um… that’s it. We are pretty open to ANYTHING!

I would love to hear your travel experiences and ANY suggestions you have on where to go, where to stay, what to do to make our one year anniversary so special!

Thanks guys!!! 🙂

  1. Big Sur. Carmel. God’s country. It is wonderful. Or Napa. Or Encinada?

I would think somewhere with a beach, cabin, low key resort where dogs would be welcome, it would be slow pace with plenty of together time. find a place with a hot tub, private patio with comfy lounge furnishings, long day (and nights) on the beach!

  3. Amanda says:

Carmel! Everywhere is dog friendly, even the beach!

    • Wow! Everyone is pointing to Carmel! I think we need to seriously think about this one! And it is so true. The dogs would be more welcome there than most places. 🙂

I have lots to weigh in on! Michael and I have taken lots of little driving trips . . But keep in mind, we are much older and much more boring than you and Clay. That being said . . Lake Arrowhead is super cute, and we love the Lake Arrowhead Lodge, and they allow dogs! It’s right on the lake. Also what about Palm Springs? Ace Hotel? You guys would love the Ace and they allow dogs. Also you know MIchael and I LOVE Ojai. Might be a little sleepy for you, but it is the most beautiful place. There’s always Santa Barbara too, BUT. Michael and I always say the drive all the way up the coast to Carmel was the best trip we’ve ever taken. (domestically). It was magical .. we took our time driving up, and stopped along the way wherever we wanted. You could make a stop in Santa Barbara, We Stopped in Buelleton for the famous split pea soup, went to the Hearst Castle, drove up to Big Sur and had lunch at Post Ranch Inn (incredible place. Couldn’t afford to stay there but it’s a MUST see. And if you wanted to stay in Big Sur, you could stay in the yurts at Treebones Resort! This has been at the top of my list to do for a long time now. It’s like camping in a tee-pee type thing at a little vibey resort with a pool and an amazing view. And I’m sure they allow dogs.) Also stop at the Madonna inn, just google it. And drove the rest of the way to Carmel, one of the most beautiful towns and neighborhoods I’ve ever seen. We did some amazing hiking up there, picnics, It was such a great trip because the journey there was as amazing as the destination. We couldn’t believe, we didn’t realize until then how beautiful our state was! The drive back was gorgeous too, we saw some whales, seals during birthing season all on the beach, etc etc. Magical. If I were you and Clay and wanted something special, I would get in the car and drive up the coast. It’s the BEST COAST! And listen to Best Coast on the way 🙂

I can’t believe it’s been I year! I have been wanting to drive the coast for forever. So I think you should do that so I can vicariously live threw your photos.

Go to Moab in southern Utah! It is beautiful and so unique!

I have the perfect idea: Glass Beach near Fort Brag. This is a cove where old bottles were dumped years and years ago. The surf has polished and smoothed all this beautiful broken glass, and I hear it’s yours for the taking. You can bring it home and put it in a beautiful glass bowl!! There is a little town called Elk along the coastline near, along the Big Sur Coastline. It is quaint, with bed and breakfasts. The scenery is to die for, and it’s very romantic. It may still be cool enough that you can light the fireplace. I’ve always dreamed of driving the coastline in a convertible.

I forgot to mention that Carmel is very dog friendly. We didn’t have ours with us but it seems like They were welcome everywhere. We were there for New Year’s Eve and attended an actual doggy New Year’s party at a hotel there Where dogs wore party hats. This is a true story

  9. efonnesbeck says:

Vegas is a nice place! (wink wink).

  10. Tawsha says:

i also cast a vote for carmel! i have wanted to go there forever!

  11. Tawsha says:

oh and monterey is right by carmel and has the fishermans wharf, so cute. google search images for Point Lobos State Natural Reserve which is in carmel. both monterey and carmel look amazing! and only like 5 miles apart

  12. Caitlin says:

I have no idea how far it is from San Diego, I can’t imagine longer than 10 hours but look into places in the Texas Hill Country. I am from Austin and there are some of the best places in that area if you’ve never been like Fredricksburg and such. Lake Austin has a lot of cool places to go as well that are on the lake. Horseshoe Bay is pretty as well which is done there
