Carolina Fall Day Tripping with Backcountry

One of the major perks of living in South Carolina, and one reason we chose to move here: SO many new places to visit, and only a few hours away. Charleston, Charlotte, Atlanta and my favorite so far… Greenville and the gorgeous Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. Ahhhh!!! And still so many more small towns to explore. Clay and I have both been between California and Utah our entire lives and have been eager to see new things… especially more of the East Coast. So this was the perfect spot.

We drove up recently to the mountains near Asheville, NC and it was GORGEOUS!!! The leaves are barely starting to change, it was cooler in the higher elevation… I was in heaven. I’ve heard it gets unbelievable color in late October and even into November. Can’t wait to have that at driving distance… that’s one thing I missed when we were living in California. I’m a sucker for fall foliage.

I recently got these Patagonia Synchilla Fleece jackets for me and the boys from Backcountry. I linked mine here, but they are also all linked below! We brought them along and they were perfect to wrap the boys up in after a quick dip in the freezing mountain water. I’ll be wearing mine all winter… ???? They’re lightweight but thick enough to keep you toasty.

Also, this Coal beanie is the greatest ever. Really, there’s something about the fit. I have it in 4 colors and wear them allll the time.

I am sure you guys have seen my Backcountry posts before… and that is because I am TRUE fan through and through. I have been shopping Backcountry way back since college, they are actually headquartered where I went to school and I have had friends work there. They are such a great company and have THE best outdoor gear. Hands down.

Looking Glass Waterfall is part of the Pisgah National Forest in North Carolina. It was pretty amazing to be there with hardly any other visitors. Also a really great spot with kids and right off the main road. The rainbow coming through the mist on the water, it was so beautiful, we played in the river for hours.

If you are looking for the perfect Fall performance boot that looks great but can also withstand the weather… I’ve got it for you!! I am a huge Sorel fan. Every year they come out with some amazing performance boots, these Emelie Sorels are the best! But I have a couple more pairs, one is a hiking boot that I wear with just about everything… I’ll link them all below!

This was one of our first day trips and it couldn’t have been any better! If you know the Carolinas at all or places close by that are worth a visit, would love to hear!

They’ve given me a coupon code to share with you guys! So make sure to use the code MARYL15 on your order to save 15% on your first order (exclusions apply)!

Girl I have SO many places for you to check out! We live northwest of Charlotte, and before that lived in Knoxville, so both places are very close to the Smokey’s.

Definitely go explore Asheville some more – and there’s a small town right near there called Black Mountain. My husband works there from time to time and we love going with him and staying in the cutest AirBnBs there.
Boone – another awesome town. It’s the home of Grandfather Mountain which has an AMAZING view – they also have a zoo at the top (and a scene from Forest Gump was filmed there)
Hanging Rock State Park – one of my favorite places. Such a pretty overlook with a huge rock boulder on the top (easy to hike with kids)
Pilot Mountain – another fun and easy hike with a cool view

Those are just to name a few 🙂 love the outfits!

Hey I grew up in Hendersonville. WNC has grown sooo much. We live in ny now but I send my kids to camp there every summer. Take the kids to Flat Rock to see the goats at Carl Sandburg’s house; in summer they have plays of his children’s stories. Nice hike, too. Eat BBQ at Hubba Hubba which is right there. Also saluda is beautiful drive from Greenville/spg. The Main Street is small and charming and has a real old hardware store diner for lunch. Brevard is great town with great toy store! Hike the waterfalls at DuPont state forest. Great for kids just don’t let them fall in!:)
