two weeks

I gave my two weeks notice yesterday at 4:38 pm after a day of several “I can’t take this anymore” moments. I could probably take anything really… if they just paid me a little more, or a lot more. So I have decided to do the unthinkable. The unimaginable, something I told myself I would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS do. I am going back to being a server. Temporarily. To open up my schedule for soul searching… and job searching.  Mostly in NYC.

I borrowed the above quote from my friend Hayli’s blog. I admire her for always following her heart. (It sounds cliche, but really… she just chooses something she loves and goes for it.) This might be her mantra or something of the sort. She is always full of good advice and I think this might be the best piece of all. There is no reason why I should come to work 8 am to 5:30 pm everyday and hate what I do. Especially when they’re paying me nickles and dimes with no promise (anymore) to a brighter future. I am going to take a step back and not jump in until I am absolutely and completely head over heels for what I do… for most hours of the day. It only makes sense. The world will keep going despite of you, so you might as well do what you love. Life is too short to not. “Hello, can I take your order?”

That quote is so true. We should all step back and take a good look at our lives. A job shouldn’t be a drudgery. You want to know you are contributing to a group that is going places; you should enjoy the people with whom you spend a good part of you day EVERY day; you need to feel appreciated. You are doing the right thing. I can’t wait to see which direction you take next. CPK for now, and then— Upward and Onward!

Totally agree, life is too short to be miserable at work! Good move.

I recently came across your blog and have been browsing and checking out posts. I came across this post and it really hits me. I am about to graduate with a Bachelors in Business this coming spring… I like it ok but I just can’t imagine working at some job I just don’t like. I know I need to start somewhere.. I have no real experience so I will be starting out at some entry level job.. I don’t know what to do.. I just want to do what I love as well something I enjoy and just travel… Any advice?

p.s. I love your blog and the way you think! Happy New Year!
